Mr. and Mrs. Huo: Chapter 2

 

Starlight, Penthouse Suite

Sunlight streamed through the windows falling on the figure reclining on a chaise lounge right next to the windows of the penthouse. 

The penthouse was decorated in the Modern Classic style, the warm and elegant decor of the apartment reflected the taste of its owner.

With a business magazine in hand, Yu Yuan slowly studied its contents while basking in the sun.

Ring! Ring!! A phone rang disrupting the silence and peaceful atmosphere. Yu Yuan glanced at the screen of her phone, her brows furrowed. Seeing the name Li Na on the screen, her expression eased slightly.

Li Na was Yu Yuan's best friend. They had known each other since childhood and kept in touch during the years when Yu Yuan traveled back and forth.

Li Na was from the Li family, one of the wealthiest families in City A. She was the only daughter of the head of the Li family, but she had an older brother who was the current heir of the Li family.

Yu Yuan picked up the call. 

"Yu Yuan!" an excited voice sounded over the phone.

With an exasperated look on her face, Yu Yuan spoke, "Li Na, speak properly."

"Everything is set!"

"Is that so?" Yu Yuan inquired with a brow raised. "That's good. Now, all we have to do is wait for someone to take the bait."

Two years before Yu Yuan finally returned to China, Li Na started a company.

Li Na loved to design and create jewelry but she had no talent for it. Therefore, the only way she could pursue her dream was to create a company that gathered talented jewelry designers and allowed them to put their skills to good use, which she did.

The name of the company was Bejeweled. With its talented designers, all its jewelry pieces were top-notch, and it was only a matter of time before it became top in the industry.

Its potential couldn't be hidden. Such a competitor drew panic and jealousy from others in the industry. Even though Bejeweled had the support of the Li family, some schemes couldn't be avoided. 

Some of their designs had been stolen before they were released and a rival company launched them claiming the designs as their own. The rival company always launched just a day before Bejeweled's scheduled launch. This was clearly taunting them.

The Li family couldn't intervene because the rival company had the support of the Yan family, the sworn enemy of the Li family, and this was a matter between the younger generation. 

Interfering would cause the Li family to be labeled as shameless and might serve as an excuse for the Yan family to play some tricks.

Li Na could only tackle this problem internally, but catching the spy was tricky. The designers in Bejeweled often worked collectively. The designs were out in the open and who was responsible couldn't be pinpointed.

To make matters worse, there was an important jewelry design competition coming soon. This competition was organized by the bigwigs in the industry. The winner of this competition would gain national recognition and an opportunity to collaborate with huge partners from overseas. This was a huge opportunity but the current situation threatened their ability to participate. 

At her wit's end, Li Na turned to her best friend for help. Yu Yuan assisted her to set a trap. And now, all that was left for them to do was to wait.

"I can barely wait. Thank you so much for this Yu Yuan."

"It's nothing besides, there should be no thanks between us." Yu Yuan really thought so. Favors between family didn't require thanks and Li Na was like family to her. Besides, Li Na would do the same for her.

"I know, but I can't help it. You know how much this means to me. I was afraid the innocent would be affected. That spy is really hateful."

Whoever did this sort of thing could only be labeled as hateful. Stealing the hard work of others for the benefit of another. This type of person was not afraid of retribution and deserved to be struck down by lightning.

"It'll be fine. The preparations we made are more than enough."

"I'm glad," Li Na replied, finally letting the subject go and immediately moving to a new one.

"My brother received an invite to the birthday banquet of the Ji family's patriarch. Did you?"

"Yes, I did." The Ji family was one of the top five families in City A. Yu Yuan's invite had been received directly from the patriarch himself. Yu Yuan had acted as a consultant to the Ji family a few times thus the patriarch thought highly of her.

"Do you want to go with my brother? I know you're not familiar with the upper circles."

Yu Yuan had been away from the high society of China for over 8 years. Being away for just a year was enough to make one unfamiliar with the happenings in the upper circles much less 9 years.

Li Na was afraid Yu Yuan would be taken advantage of. Associating with the upper circles was not for the weak. A small misstep before some small-minded people could spell doom for an inexperienced person.

"No need. I can handle myself."

"Tell my brother if anything happens. He dares not neglect you else I'll give him an earful."

"I'm sure you will." Li Na was like a tigress protecting her cub. Even her brother wouldn't be spared.

After saying their goodbyes, they quit the call. Subsequently ending the call, Yu Yuan glanced at the wall clock. She then remembered it was almost time.

Twenty minutes later, a luxurious car drove out of the underground garage heading towards one of the busiest parts of City A.

Yu Yuan arrived at a restaurant named Tia.

Tia was a very famous restaurant in City A. For normal people, eating there required reservation months in advance. Its dishes were delicious, exquisite, and very expensive. What many didn't know was that Yu Yuan was a major investor in this restaurant. 

Wei Chun, the owner of Tia, was once a student of a well-known chef in China. He had a great talent for cooking, but he was a thorn in the flesh his fellow students. At an event that would mark a turning point in his life, he was framed. His master disowned him, and he became a laughing stock in the industry.

Wei Chun was once naive thinking talent and hard work were all he needed, but this incident opened his eyes to the truth. A once-rising star became trash that no one wanted. Just as he was about to fall into despair, Yu Yuan extended a helping hand.

Now, he owns one of the finest dining restaurants in the whole of China. His former fellow students were filled with regrets whenever they thought of him but it was already too late.

Yu Yuan was at Tia today to meet with her assistant, Qin Si. Since Yu Yuan rarely handled her investments personally, most of them are done through her assistant. Another reason she was able to remain mysterious.

At the door, Yu Yuan gave her name. Upon hearing her name, the attendant froze slightly. Immediately picking up a phone the attendant requested, "Miss Yu, please wait a moment."

A few minutes later, hurried footsteps could be heard. The manager had arrived to personally welcome her. When Wei Chun heard that Yu Yuan would be visiting the restaurant, he had informed them not to slight her. 

Therefore, the manager knew that an important guest by the name Yu Yuan would be arriving today. Her boss had specifically emphasized this, so, she couldn't afford to the slightest mistake.

Smiling ingratiatingly the manager said, "Miss Yu, pardon the delay. Your room is this way." She led Yu Yuan to a luxurious private room. "Mr Qin Si has been awaiting your arrival."

"Thank you."

Yu Yuan pushed the door open and entered. Assistant Qin, who had been waiting, looked up after hearing the door open and immediately stood up to greet his boss.

"Welcome, Boss."

Yu Yuan nodded in response and sat down. Not long after, the signature dishes of Tia were brought in and arranged on the table. Rather than a business meeting, it looked like a banquet was about to be held.

Qin Si looked at the tableful of dishes 

right in front of him and ridiculed in his heart. Who would have thought that the highly sought-after mystery investor discussed business opportunities worth hundreds of millions in an atmosphere like this?

Yu Yuan glanced at her assistant. She knew exactly what he was thinking. "Are you secretly mocking me for choosing to discuss business here?"

"Cough...No, Boss! Not at all!"

"What do you know? This is the best way to discuss business."

"....."

Boss, I'm not a three-year-old. You are obviously here to enjoy the dishes of Tia.

As they picked up their utensils, they heard a loud clamoring outside the door. A shrill voice sounded, "What do you mean this room is occupied? Tell them I'll pay generously for them to leave the room!"
