A Happy Dream

A Happy Dream It was late in the evening, and the night stars shone brightly in the sky, each appearing as dazzling as the next. Sienna held the hand of her fiancé as they both walked into the famed night market, Certeyn. Certeyn was a special market. It was well known because of the type of sellers that operated in it—witches and wizards. And as expected, Certeyn was a magical place to be. Its products ranged from simple potions that temporarily gave you the voice of a siren to silly ones that allowed you to walk on your hands like they were feet. Its traders also offered services like fortune-telling. One would think such a market also opened opportunities for shady deals. But dangerous goods never made it past the Wardons. They were like the police, and they made good patrol officers. Most importantly, they had a group of powerful witches and wizards that made a good deterrent force. Certeyn had an illusory atmosphere. Its only light source was the night pearls that hung in the air ...

Freedom

FREEDOM Elmore County Courthouse Sounds somber, I thought as I looked at the inscriptions etched in the entrance of the courthouse. The courthouse stood solemn and dignified before me as I'd always imagined.  Who would have thought, after 10 years of marriage, I would be standing at this place for the same reason over a thousand people do so in similar places every month, divorce? Divorce. It sounds so familiar yet so foreign at the same time.  I knew my ex-husband-to-be, Dave, for a year before we got married. When we got married, I thought we were in it for the long haul, but I was wrong. I was so in love I ignored the warning signs and continued to do so years after, even in the face of consequences. How did it start? I'll have to admit, it was like boiling a frog in tepid water. The frog is unaware, totally ignorant, of its impending death.  He isolated me from people that cared about me.
